ISP Film Festival

30 November 2021

The first ISP Film Festival began last school year in 2021 and will be held again at the beginning of 2022. Each participating ISP school will choose a team of 8 students between 13 and 18 years, who will be learning everything from scriptwriting to acting for 4 months. During these months, the students have to script, film and edit their own short film and throughout the process, they will receive videos from experts in the film industry, including the University of Bournemouth, which will cover all the skills necessary for the short film. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to come together, discuss, share ideas and learn new skills while receiving feedback from professionals.

After 4 months, every school needs to send their film and it will be judged in 6 categories: Best Picture, Best Acting Performance, Best Original Script, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Sound Editing. The winners will be announced during an online meeting.

I interviewed Mrs Millington to ask about last year’s production. She informed me that when they began, they were only aware of the basics of how it would work. They then began to receive videos and feedback from film professionals at the University of Bournemouth. I also asked how they celebrated their prize for Best Acting Performance and Mrs Millington explained that they held a première on the day of the announcement where one of their crew held a speech, just like in the Oscars. They celebrated together and discussed what to buy with the 900 Euros they had won. They eventually decided on buying two gimbals, a green screen suit and an autocue reader.

In Mrs Millington’s words: “Have a go, get involved; by trying something new, you might find something that could be your career and you might enjoy it so much you want to get further with it.”

If you want to get involved and participate, please contact Mrs Millington.
