Some Suggestions from the Students...

30 September 2021

As the new school year begins, the atmosphere is vibrating with opportunity, excitement and energy: making this the perfect time to focus on various issues that students have brought up concerning the school.

Although the flood of incoming new students had an overwhelmingly positive impression of the school, with students being in awe of the wide range of plus clubs, beautiful views and amazing facilities, some have raised concerns. William, a new student in Year 10, believes that there is a lack of organization concerning new pupils; specifically, he complains of being placed randomly into Maths and English classes without sitting a setting test prior. He also reports that he has to wait for extended periods of time in the lunch queue. He is certain that this system could be modified to function more effectively.

Meanwhile Lucas, who came to this school last year, felt that he was met with a cold and unwelcoming environment. He believes that developing a close-knit, family-like community should be a primary focus for the school. He is also insistent that the IT Department should be developed further to offer classes such as Design and Technology as GCSE subjects.

When it comes to facilities, the recent rainy weather, a stark reminder of Autumn, has prompted a rerun of the years-long conversation on the lack of outdoor shelter available against the rain and sun.

Another issue that was brought up was the lack of enforcement of school rules such as those about uniform and mobile phones, leading to a severe problem of misbehaviour. It is hoped that the recent modifications to the behaviour system will remedy this problem.

On the other hand, the transformation of the library into “the Garden”, a stimulating area for studying and reading, has been widely praised.
