George Floyd

23 June 2020

This month, countless reports have been made worldwide about riots and protests following the gruesome death of George Floyd. Floyd's life was a fatal victim of police brutality and systematic racism in the US. George Floyd was a black man who lost his life on the 25th of May in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd was 46 years old when local police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee against Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, suffocating him. George Floyd repeated the words 'I can't breathe' which have now become symbolic of police brutality and racism. After Floyd's inhumane death, riots and Black Lives Matter protests have taken place globally. The movement has left people wondering whether George Floyd's death was an alarm clock awakening us to the realities of racism or had we just been pressing the 'snooze' button for too long,
