October MUN Conference

31 October 2021

On the last two days of school before our half term break, 19 students were cruelly prevented from wearing Halloween costumes. Instead, they spent two days locked up in the Theatre wearing suits, arguing about the Afghanistan Crisis.

Sounds fun, right? Welcome to Model United Nations.

The name is pretty self-explanatory - MUN is a simulation of the United Nations, where teenagers and young adults, representing different countries, come together for a couple of days of intense debate on a current topic. Some love it, others hate it - but there are enough in the former category for MUN to be a popular practice in schools and universities across the world.

The conference on the 28th and 29th of October introduced the world of Model United Nations to 9 new delegates. For our three Chairs, the conference was a new experience as well, as it was their first time chairing. After two days of fierce debate, 3 winners emerged: Justus Honing, Iñigo Aresti, and Beatriz Espinosa. Also worth mentioning was our “Most Improved” delegate, Blanca Ferrer Todoli, and our “Most Improved Over the Course of the Conference” delegate (we know it’s a mouthful), Juancho Gil Olmeda. We were delighted to see the new delegates gain confidence over the two days of the conference and crawl out of their shells to present their fantastic speeches and arguments to the committee.

As always, it was an exhilarating experience. We eagerly look forward to our online ISPMUN conference next month, and our future in-school and virtual conferences.
