The Student Council has been a constant presence in the school for years, some markedly more successful than others. Now, the council will be separated into 5 committees led exclusively by 6th formers, and its title will also be updated. But the question is, will the efficiency of this largely dormant body also upgrade?
This reformation should help to modify the “image” of the council so as to appeal to more students, and therefore increase participation. 2 representatives will be chosen from each tutor group, who will then have to choose which of the committees they would like to attend.
Despite potential issues, attempting this new format may well be the best option in progressing the Student Voice. After all, according to James Lawrence Esteban, leader of the Student Voice, the goal is “to make every year, every day, every week better than the previous”.
